Collierville has been home for over 15 years. I was attracted to our small, close-knit community from the beginning. We have quiet, safe neighborhoods, beautiful parks, and top-rated schools. I want to protect and preserve these aspects of Collierville for ourselves and our children.
In order to accomplish this, we must balance the board so that it is not bound to a single industry or viewpoint. Currently, the elected BMA is comprised of a business owner and independently employed individuals, most of whom are either directly or indirectly tied to real estate or land development. We need a diverse board with different backgrounds and professions to provide a governance which better represents our town. We need everyone, professionals, homemakers, business owners, developers, retirees, to be represented with no one group having undue influence.
Collierville can and should grow responsibly, but not at every homeowner's expense. We should maintain a healthy balance between our residential and commercial needs helping businesses succeed and flourish without new gas stations, strip malls, apartments or other commercial intrusions being placed near or in existing residential areas. I would not vote for any new apartments and high density housing developments in Collierville. The conversations I have had with you have echoed this same conviction.
Furthermore, I do not have any financial ties to any developments in our town and can represent us, the citizens as homeowner and residents, without conflicts of interest. I will make decisions objectively considering the future, not just the short term. I will bring my honesty, responsibility and accountability to the board. Together we can bring balance to the board and build a brighter future.
Sincerely,
Thomas Swan
